Veterans History Project (Library of Congress)
Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base

The Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base dedicated the 2016 Air Power Expo to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
With coordination by the NAS Fort Worth JRB Public Affairs Office a team was formed to be a Library of Congress pilot program for interviews at a large public gathering.

The Veterans History Project collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.

Members completed a training course including interviewing and Library of Congress requirements for reporting. The training was conducted at the Fort Worth Aviation Museum by a highly experienced team of volunteers from the Sam Houston Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in San Antonio.

The local volunteer staff included members representing the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tarrant County Veterans Council, Tin Can Sailors and the Marine Corps League.

The Texas Court Reporters Association provided complete transcriptions of every interview, Texas Air National Guard 136 Air Wing personnel and equipment provided production quality audio / video recordings and the Navy did a great job preparing the location and providing support during the interviews. VA counselors were on site with their Mobile VA Center in case the need arose. Thirteen personal accounts of American Vietnam War Veterans were completed for submission. Although some interviews were intense, no problems were encountered and all seemed pleased with the results.

When an interview was completed the participant was presented with a copy of their interview, an American Legion Appreciation Coin and their Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin presented by a member of The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Staff.
