Jesse "JD" Wood (1924 - 2011)

Jesse "JD" Wood, 86, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011. Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood Cemetery, Comanche. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Jesse was born June 29, 1924, in Hastings, Neb., to Jesse and Jenny Elizabeth Devaney Wood. Jesse proudly served his country, as a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force, and retired from General Dynamics after 39 years as an electrical engineer. He was a devoted family man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend, who loved fishing, football, gardening and watching old westerns. Jesse was a true gentleman in every way, always there to offer his love and support. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burleson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bessie Chambers Wood, and sisters, Dorothy, Velma and Elsie. Survivors: Daughters, Jane Branum-McKnight and husband, Bennie, of Valley View and DiAnn Robertson and husband, Dale, of Burleson; sons, Richard Wood and wife, Gayla, of Granbury, John David Wood and wife, Angela, of Allen and Donald Wood and wife, Sheri, of Crowley; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving extended family and friends.

We only knew him for a short time and it was our blessing to get to know him. May our dear Lord watch over each of his loved one who are left behind. May He fill you with His comfort and peace.
